Kadir López Nieve.
° 1972
Through that strange magical realism that characterizes already his well defined style, Kadir Lopez Nieve, achieves a reciprocal vision of the world that surrounds him by means of a pictorial exercise in which elements from the burlesque and caricature and elements of the socio-cultural legacy of the Island are combined using a strong playful formulation.
His painting is characterized by a language that is pleasant and rich in playful elements, where forms, colors, super positions, mixtures and visual experiments integrate to reinforce the theme of each one of his projects. His paintings nearly almost reflect fragments of the human existence, sometimes caricatured with a refined humor, and are conceived with extraordinary creative freedom. In addition: when composing their narrative he does so by means of an explosive organization of colors, in which the striking, the sober, the clear and the dark come together to create an atmosphere of nostalgia, enchantment and dreaminess.
Playfulness, manipulation, a process in accordance with his view that he is a creator of illusions, are part of an “all knowing” view present in poetic image of Kadir Lopez. It could seem that this derives from the idea of the creator as a genius, as a human translator of the statements of the western Judeo-Christian God. But in fact it has more to do with the attention to the varied areas and ways in which power manifests itself, like through threads that tie to us and that make us move like marionettes. It is therefore that the hand one of the recurrent motifs in his work: the hand that moves the threads, albeit from the functional space of art.
